  • Coworking is as much about being part of a community as it is about desk and meet space, Wi-Fi and other physical aspects of the work environment. A number of our new members are not only coworking 'newbies' but also new to Leeds. We asked Jason Thorne, who joined the coworking space in May, to share his experiences of moving to Leeds and coworking here at Old Broadcasting House. Jason: Until about six months ago, my work was based exclusively in London - a great place, but for a number of per...

  • We're pretty excited about this year's Leeds Digital Festival in November 2011, as it looks as though there'll be a  fantastic programme of events with something for everyone. The schedule will be published in a couple of weeks, so we'd suggest keeping an eye on the web site for more information and following the festival on Twitter. We like the lead-in series of lunchtime events at The Adelphi, although you do need to sign up early as tickets tend to go in a few hours. These events take the...

  • As part of our third birthday guest posts, we invited Imran Ali to share his thoughts on Old Broadcasting House's coworking space. Here goes... Stephen Johnson's recently published Where Good Ideas Come From: A Natural History of Innovation  chronicles the stories behind why particular places generate and share good ideas. It's surprising how fragile, random and accidental innovation can be; invariably nurtured and pursued by committed, passionate and, yes,partially-crazy individuals rather...

I'd pretty much decided at this point that I was going to leave my job and become a freelance web developer. No one at work knew this. I told them where I was going, but I told them I was just interested in meeting other developers. I certainly didn't tell them that I was hoping that I'd meet...

  • On 1st November 2007 the first member signed up to join us. Since that day, there's been quite a few changes.  We've got some new neighbours - Broadcasting Place's rusty red beauty only existed on paper; and we've grown from having four members to being more or less full with thirty five members currently coworking here. But the original vision is still current, and its great to see more and more coworking spaces emerging globally. We couldnt let this milestone pass without marking it in so...
