Twestival

by: Luke Harrison

New Social networking site Twitter will launch it’s own festival –

entitled Twestival in more than 100 cities around the world on 12 February.

The event is organised by volunteers in each city, ranging from
Beijing and Sydney to Capetown and Lisbon. Twestival will allow the
Twitter community to socialise offline and enjoy food, drink and
entertainment, while also raising money and awareness for campaign
group ‘charity: water’.

Festivals will take place around the UK, with the Leeds event hosted by nti Leeds held at Old Broadcasting House. Linda
Broughton, Head of the Northern Technology Institute explained the
appeal of Twitter: “It’s a really easy way to keep in touch with
people. Networking is a huge part of business in certain sectors, and
if you can’t go to every event then Twitter is a great way of staying
informed about things.”

Linda spoke on Radio Leeds this morning as the guest of Andrew Edwards and Georgey Spanswick. To listen to the interview go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00242mh

The Leeds Twestival is being organised by Leeds Met Events
Management second year student Ben Saffer, who volunteered to be part
of this event and help make the Leeds event a memorable one.

You can join Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/ and follow Linda @lindabroughton and Ben @bensaffer. To book your place at this event visit Twestival at http://leeds.twestival.com/
